I survived

Donate Now

I think that’s really what Institute is about. I survived.
I’ll have a much longer post with reflections and such this week. I have free time, so I can do that. However, in between now and then, I’m going to get some well deserved sleep.
And stand up in a wedding tomorrow. In 90 degree heat. In an outdoor wedding. Good thing I packed deoderant.

Week 4, in the (note)books

Week Four is now in the books, and as I sit on the ledge, preparing to dive into week five, these thoughts bubble up… Thunder and Lightning I have now seen two thunderstorms in Philadelphia (today being the second). For some reason, I remember them being fiercer in Milwaukee (or Wisconsin). Apparently we don’t get…

Heat Day?

Since I am from Wisconsin, I’m used to getting days off because of inclement weather. Usually, though, it is usually because it’s negative 30 or there are ten inches of snow on the ground. Yesterday, though, I experienced something new: a heat day. At about 5:50 p.m., I walked out of my room and ran…

Induction, Week 1

I feel like I need to do a series of posts in one. Institute kind of cramps blogging time, so…  Reflections on turning 23 Thursday was my birthday. I woke up at 5:30, went to work at 7:00, got back at 4:30, ate supper, went shopping for classroom supplies, worked on lesson plans, and went…

In the end, only two got into community colleges, one ended up in jail, and another ended up pregnant. It reminded me of my…

Day 1, induction (unofficial)

So, day one in Penn is in the books. We had a group supper and then learned about what to expect tomorrow with job interviews. Apparently a lot of the schools that have English vacancies aren’t able to make it tomorrow, so not all of us got interviews. Fortunately, I have one job interview tomorrow,…

On the Ground

I have officially been in Phily for over 36 hours right now. I spent today wandering around my new home, specifically between 15th and 5th on Market. Today I visited Independence Hall, and then went to the Constitution Museum, which was sweet. They had a room that had life-like statues of all of the Framers,…

New York, New York!

I am currently chilling with my friend Sarah in New York City. It’s been a blast, as we have covered a good portion (in my mind) of the city. Today I got to see the Statue of Liberty for the first time, which was pretty neat.  I hit a major milestone yesterday, as I watched…

DC, Day 1

So, today was my first day in Washington D.C. I got to the conference location around 5:00 p.m., and decided that I would use the time to tour my favorite spots in WDC. I ended up connecting with a new friend, Katie, and we wandered the city, hitting all the major landmarks. The pictures can…
